We run our own projects to meet the needs of our unique communities but also come together to work on joint projects such as;
- Converge Youth Summit held yearly and to which all high schools in the North Shore Ward area are invited to take part in.
- The Devonport-Takapuna Intergenerational Dialogue event where we bring young people and not-so-young people together to discuss and develop solutions to a variety of community issues (e.g. bullying, elder neglect, housing, poverty and more).
- Devonport-Takapuna Schools’ Beach Clean-up Day.
Devonport Peninsula Trust supports individuals at a neighbourhood level and a wide variety of community groups by:
- Providing advice and/or assistance with funding and promotion
- Sharing news and raising awareness of important community issues
- Connecting people with relevant Auckland Council staff and others in the community
- Providing the community with a voice and supporting emerging new initiatives
- We also provide resources to help with community events and happenings, including human resources and physical resources like marquees and gazebos.
We run a slate of local community events to help create a sense of belonging and connectedness and to promote the arts, heritage, the environment and physical activity. See more about our events on our Community Events page.
Throughout the year we also work with Haumaru Housing (formerly Auckland Council Housing for Older People) and Outreach Therapy Pets to hold regular social gatherings at our local pensioner villages in the area.
We facilitate and support network forums, such as;
- Devonport community network forum where all are welcome and we share and discuss topical issues and
- Devonport Youth Forum where we support young people to undertake community projects.
- Devonport Community & Business Expo.
Devonport Peninsula Trust also umbrellas the Restoring Takarunga Hauraki project and the Pest Free Coordinator position.
Devonport Peninsula Trust’s governing body is made up of key community partners who influence the direction of our work. See our trustee and staff profiles following, to learn more about who we are.
We are also in regular contact with other community groups and individuals e.g. Devonport Community House, The Rose Centre, Devonport Rotary Club, Naval Community Organisation, the Devonport Community Constable, Devonport RSA, Devonport Folk Club, Devonport Library, Devonport Community Garden & Ngataringa Organic Garden, Devonport Recycling Centre, Schools, Devonport U3A, Michael King Writers’ Centre and youth organisations like Scouts, Girl Guides and more!
